FUCK BAD WEIGHT CUTS. A Guide.

I was inspired to write this book after working with a female grappler. I have been working with Maggy Meier now for multiple cuts and international tournaments. She is one of the best female grapplers in Canada. I have moved her weight up and down safely and effectively, despite sometimes needing to lose as much as 20lbs in a shorter than ideal timeline.

I have seen members of the MMA and boxing community both with serious side effects from risky cuts. Female athletes often can be heard discussing the negative effects of the weight cuts on their mental and physical health. I of course have personal experience in both jiujitsu and boxing with weight cutting and have seen the knock-on effects of bad weight cuts on many athletes.

This is all sadly common and it is partly due to a lack of understanding around the strategies in place for weight maintenance between cuts, the sometimes very real pressures of weight class changes and short notices fights, as well as lack of understanding about the body.  And very often it can be laziness around the preparation of a solid nutrition plan.

I want to shed some light on the technical side of preparing for a cut as well as, continue to make myself available for the combat sport community for nutrition coaching and guidance.

I have a background in Kinesiology and Nutrition from Mount Royal University. I have been working as a Strength Coach and boxing trainer for over 10 years, and coaching as a nutritionist for over 12 years. I am a R.H.N. from C.S.N.N graduating with honors as well as an R.P. Nutrition Coach.
